Duane Suffered Because He Was Denied Coverage

I have had Chronic Venous Disease (CVD) in both my legs for over 15 years, but it wasn’t until last year I found a doctor that wanted to do something about it. I was sent to OSU medical to a specialist for a diagnosis. My legs were very large and made it hard to find pants to fit me, not to mention the constant ache. The doctor told me I had a problem with my lymphatic system, and I was not moving fluids out of my legs.

"He told me that it was a medical food and my insurance probably would not cover it"

He prescribed Vasculera. He told me then that it was a medical food and my insurance probably would not cover it, but he gave me a discount card so that the prescription was only going to cost me $50.00. I was skeptical at first just because I have had this problem for so long. I started the Vasculera the next day.

My doctor also told me that I would need a “pump” to help remove the fluid from my legs. He set up an appointment with a physical therapist to measure me for this and to submit the paperwork to my insurance. After about 2 weeks I started noticing that my pants were fitting better, and my legs did not ache. I was impressed. I continued to take the Vasculera and felt better and better. My insurance company denied my medical pump because I had not had cancer.

"I could not afford it, so I stopped taking it. Within a week I noticed that my legs began to ache again"

It took my doctor, myself and the physical therapist 7 months to finally get an approval for a pump, which also cost me another $350.00. When the new year rolled around, I went to get my prescription and they told me that it was going to cost me well over $130.00 each month since the discount ran out in December. I could not afford it, so I stopped taking it.

Within a week I noticed that my legs began to ache again, and even though I was using the pump, they started swelling back up. I have been out of Vasculera for over a month, and I can tell you I really do need this medication. It does work. I researched online for an alternative and actually sent an email to the company that makes Vasculera. Needless to say I was floored when I received not only an email but a phone call from them letting me know of the program that they offer now that will let me purchase it for only $49.00 per month.

"This medicine needs to be covered by insurance. No one should have to go through what I have just to have a better quality of living"

I never have been a huge believer in medicines, but I will sing praises to anyone that will listen about Vasculera. It has been a game changer for me. I will be starting the medicine back up within a week or so and should be back on track to being pain-free and semi-healthy again. This medicine needs to be covered by insurance. No one should have to go through what I have gone through just so I can have a better quality of living.

*Vasculera is a prescription medical food product for the clinical dietary management of the metabolic processes of chronic venous disease to be used under a physician’s supervision.
